Soil pH Test
Acidic Soil is Bad for Grass Growth
PH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a substance is, and soil acidity or alkalinity (soil pH) is important because it influences how easily plants and grasses take up nutrients from the soil. Many environmental factors, including amount of rainfall, vegetation type, and temperature, can affect your soil pH.
Test Your pH
Sea Isle Weed Control will conduct a soil pH test of your property. Your soil pH should be in the 6.8 – 7.0 range in South Eastern PA. Keeping your soil pH in this range allows your grass to most efficiently use the nutrients we are providing it. Anything below that range is considered acidic.
To raise the soil pH, lime applications are necessary. The amount of lime applications are dependent upon the acidity of the soil. Typically, we don’t see soil pH readings above 7.0 in our area. Most soil pH levels are below 6.8 since our rain water is naturally acidic.
